Disable secure boot windows 10

Disabling secure boot

When Secure Boot is disabled, your computer becomes more vulnerable to rootkit infections, which are installed before the Windows boot process. Security or antivirus software generally does not protect the computer against this type of threat.

Notebooks that shipped from the factory with Windows 7 or earlier may have a BIOS update available that includes secure boot. See BIOS update for more information.

If the computer does not start, a blue screen or no image opens, or a BIOS error appears after installing new compatible hardware, such as a video card, Secure Boot may not recognize it. Return the computer to its original state and then enable legacy boot to install the new components.

Secure Boot prevents your computer from booting from legacy boot devices, including CDs, DVDs, and USB flash drives. To boot your computer from a valid disk, enable legacy support and then select the correct drive as the boot device.

Secure boot windows 10

Secure mode boots Windows in a basic state, which uses a limited set of files and drivers. If a problem does not occur in safe mode, this means that the default settings and basic device drivers are not causing the problem.  Observing Windows safe mode allows you to narrow down the source of a problem and can help you troubleshoot your computer.

There are two versions of Safe Mode: Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking. Safe Mode with Networking adds the network drivers and services you will need to access the Internet and other computers on the network.

Select one of the following sections for information on how to start your PC in safe mode from Settings, from the login screen, or from a black or blank screen.
