Red rooster, black rooster
It is like forgetting the body. A sensation of channel, that something passes through you, and what you have to try is not to close the door by thought, or fear. It’s like getting out of yourself. Singing I am neither young nor old. Time stops. I go into a trance.
Technique is not superfluous. Sometimes it is a failure of the artist, who tries to find, with repetition, a state that does not reside in the form, but in where it is done. It is something that cannot be mastered, and I love that feeling and seeing it in others. To see someone engrossed in cutting hair, or ham, it doesn’t matter, to recognize someone who is where they are, doing what they have a gift for.
Loss by death and loss in life are very painful. Songs come to me, people I have lost, songs I have written. I have purged myself a lot composing to digest those deaths. Do you know the memories, which are becoming static? So, in those songs they are a little bit alive. It’s difficult. We are not well educated about death.

She is a sweet-voiced, strong-willed woman who has a weakness for singing about sorrow. She is also positive and cheerful. Although she is confident, she drops the phone when she gets out of the cab in which she goes to the hotel where we have arranged to interview her. She has a busy schedule, but she makes time to reconcile family life, attend to the media, give concerts and pose calmly in the photo shoot we propose, even when we have exceeded the agreed time. If she had many lives, she says she would specialize in everything, but as she knows she is mortal, she does not want to give up learning everything that arouses her curiosity. Even if that makes her an expert in nothing.
The question is perfect to enter. “Is it possible?”. You have to think yes, because if not… I believe that yes, it can be done. I am a person who has hope. Sometimes less, but I function more trusting that it can be done, in general.
Domus is an album of many things. It was born from a film about evictions, and that already determines a lot: it is the external input I have, for the first time I work like that. I had a lot of problems precisely because of the vocabulary and because I didn’t want to talk about things that I don’t have much control over. I wanted to talk about the emotional journey of these people. These are problems I know. It talks about lies, loneliness, dignity. But in many areas of life.
