The way to enter, is to hold down a key while the PC is booting. The key we need to press depends on the manufacturer, each one uses a different key. The most common keys are F2, F12, ESC or Del or Delete keys.

If we do not get the screen because we are not fast enough, and we have tried all the usual keys and none of them worked, it is recommended to consult the documentation of the PC manufacturer as the key in question is usually detailed.

Remember that the method is to press the key immediately after pressing the power button and keep it pressed until you see the BIOS setup screen. Sometimes it takes a bit of practice to press the key in time, so don’t despair.

Note: Once you no longer need the PC to boot from USB you will have to repeat this operation and change the Boot Order again and leave it as it was before for the PC to boot normally.

The key that you must hold down depends on the manufacturer, and it is detailed in the boot screen, in the same place where we saw that it informed about the key to enter the BIOS. On some PCs it is the F12 key, but we recommend reading the manufacturer’s documentation.

pc does not boot from usb

The easiest way to test or install an alternative operating system on your computer, or to solve some problems, is to boot it from a CD or USB in which you have it installed. But since the first thing a PC does when you turn it on is to boot the operating system it already has installed, being able to do so is not as simple as inserting the external drive and turning it on.

In these texts, where we have put [Key] the computer should tell you a specific key. Generally this should be F12, but as the BIOS of each PC can be different, it is possible that it will tell you other keys such as F1, F8, F9, F10, TAB or ESC. Therefore it is important that you look carefully.

When you hit the appropriate key, the screen that will appear will look like the one you see in the screenshot. It will list the available drives, both your internal hard drives and external drives. Now you will only have to recognize the USB or CD you want to boot with, select it with the arrow keys and press Enter.

how to install windows 10 from bios with a usb drive

In this guide we will see how to boot a Windows 10 installation from a USB drive that we can take anywhere in our pocket, from where we can easily boot one of these units in order to keep our desktop environment wherever we go, with our security and privacy settings at all times, as if we had a laptop always with us.

This is something similar to what we could do with Linux distributions, which usually support this type of operation natively, in the same way that Windows did partially in its Enterprise and Pro editions, and although Windows to Go is no longer supported, and therefore, we can not create new units officially, there are third-party tools with which to create these bootable drives.

In this guide we will focus on two tools that will help us to reach the same goal, to have a bootable Windows 10 drive that allows us to use the operating system inside.
