The world

In 1984 Extremadura opened offices throughout the autonomous community. From July 9, it became a morning paper, expanding its pagination and incorporating the signatures of prestigious journalists throughout the country.

A turning point was the acquisition of the newspaper on November 10, 1988 by Grupo Zeta. The publishing holding company founded by Antonio Asensio strengthened the newspaper, now based in the centrally located Camino Llano street. Germán Sellers de Paz retired and Félix Pinero became editor, with Amador Rivera as general manager of Editorial Extremadura. The masthead takes the current name of El Periódico Extremadura. More media, text editing programs and local professionals were added to promote quality journalism.

A transcendental milestone was reached in 1999 with the creation of the digital edition at the web address www.elperiodicoextremadura.com. It was also the moment when the news offer was diversified and specialized with new free headers.

The Sport Extremadura C.D., has lived its launching before the media to present a club that is born as “the result of a sum of ideas and concerns of several professionals with wide experience in the sports world and the social field”.

Aída Pérez will preside over the entity and she explained that the entity is structured on three basic pillars: “innovation, the social sphere and a strong formative character”. The president has emphasized the concept of a 100% digital club.

Along the same lines, the club itself wanted to emphasize that they will use technology to improve sports performance, prevent injuries and promote understanding of the game. They also intend to create a digital identity for the players, commercialize digital assets through a technology platform and will develop digital eSports and gaming competitions in the short term. “We have an interest in being different” concluded Perez.

In the social section they will work together with the Sorapán de Rieros Foundation promoting sports and physical activity in the world of mental health as well as other series of planned actions that will be implemented with the growth of the entity.

Hoy extremadura
