four o’clock and ten o’clock

Known mainly for his work as a singer-songwriter, Luis Eduardo Aute (Manila, 1943) is a born creator; he also cultivates painting, drawing, sculpture, poetry and cinema. His approach to artistic creation is philosophical in the level to which he takes questions and the way he works with the answers. We start strong, talking about utopias…

In one of the short texts I write and which I call poemigas: I say “utopia is dead, long live autopia”. I believe that everyone has their own concept about this illusory sphere, surely, located in the antipodes of the space we have had to live in. It describes in some way the dynamics of the object of desire, that which one wishes to reach and which is unattainable. Utopia does not seem to exist, but human beings cannot live without myths. It is the state of mind by which one feels a certain nostalgia without having known it, nostalgia for the unknown, as a realm opposed to the reality that one has had to live.

As Thomas More wrote, the word “utopia” is also a “good place” (eutopia). What is this good place for you? In one of the short texts that I write and that I call poemigas: I say “utopia is dead, long live autopia”.
